Why do I need compiler for writing software for the CANtrak 2600 / 2610?

A Compiler is a software toolkit that is required to convert "C" programming language into machine code that is used by the microprocessor. The compiler has to be specific to each family of microprocessor. The CANtrak 2600 / 2610 all use a Siemens/Infineon c164 micro-processor, this requires a Keil C166 compiler.
